Pic for attention

Thanks! I’m wanting to ask about things such as brakes (LOL rear drums) and performance and such

I’v got one; what are you wondering?
![]() 05/02/2015 at 11:02 |

Does it still have the rear drum brakes?
Do they suck as much as people seem to think?
Is it a 5.0?
How much power does it make?

My father has a European Capri with a drive train out of a Fox body. 5 litre, T5 and the 8.8 rear end.

Does it have rear drum brakes?

It does not in fact. It has a disc brake conversion, but it was driven with drums for a while. The Capri is so much lighter even with the drums, it wanted to endo every time you slam the brakes.

Ah, well I am wondering whether to leave the one I’m going to be fixing with drums or do an SN95 (94-98) rear disc swap

Depends on what you’re doing with the car.

Dailying and autocrossing occasionally

If its just occasional autocross, you should be fine with the drums for a while. If you plan on adding much more than 50 hp, get yourself a disc conversion. It does impirve braking significantly. Obviously. But for now, I’d say you’d be able to live with the drums.

Uh, planning on swapping in an Explorer 5.0... with a B
![]() 05/02/2015 at 11:36 |

Hopefully going to swap in an Explorer 302... with a Ford Motorsport B303 and Comp Cam valve springs.
Definitely going to be a minimum of 250 WHP
Also planning on getting 3.73 rear gears

Not a problem for good drums then. A friend just showed up at the house with his ‘86 Cobra actually. Might snag some video after the tune up is done.

Hm, hopefully going to be doing a compression check on the 89 this afternoon :)

Mine is converted to rear disc, but the drums aren’t actually bad if they’re properly maintened and adjusted
No, they don’t suck.. some people think muscle cars and sports cars are the same thing and dont get what they expect. It understeers if you don’t slow down and oversteers when you speed up and is as much fun as I could imagine having in a street car. Huge, affordable aftermarket and knowledge base. Great bang for the buck.
Stock, hp is lowish in the 200-225 range, but torque is a fun 300 or so. Mine is a gt40 hci, I’d guess 275hp ? +/- 25? it’s a project, I’ll dyno it when it’s restored..makes noise, generates fun, not super fast in modern terms
Hope some of that helps, you may have better technical answers by now..

Sounds similar to the setup I have engine-wise, are you getting the gt40p heads, or 3bars? I dont yet know which cam I have, but suspect it’s an alphabet-303 (I’d guess f,b or e, but it’s a guess) I’d recommend a chip/good tune and supporting mods as well, or expect some idle issues
I’d stay with drums unless you have a very healthy budget - the details of the swap can add up, and you’ll get more our of that cash jn other areas, do the disc swap when/if you start messing with suspension.

Mach 1 brakes. 4.6 3V. Still trying to make my Fairmont turn.

Just got done with the car... pulled the spark plugs (7&8 are HUGE pains in the ass) and got the passenger front wheel off... with a 20 lb sledge and a 2x4 (yay corrosion!)
Car wouldn’t start because the starter is dead
Grandpa says the problem is with the valve guides or something... and that he’ll rebuild them himself (lol yeah right)
However, it will end up staying stock sadly... hopefully I can get some 3.73 gears :)

NICE!
I like it... a lot

Thanks! Do the disc brake conversion, the ford racing kit is the way to go. M-2300-M, then just buy 96-04 calipers.

Eh, I think I’ll just leave it stock with rear drums for now (it’s not my car, its my grandfather’s)
